Incoterms 2020 is the ninth set of international contract terms published by the International Chamber of Commerce, with the first set having been published in 1936. Incoterms 2020 defines 11 rules, the same number as defined by Incoterms 2010.

Buying and selling goods in the international trade system can often be complicated with responsibilities, cost and risk to all parties needing to be determined. Incoterms are often used for trade within the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA). Currently, when used in that context, Incoterms relating to compliance with export or import formalities are not applicable. Once Brexit has occurred, those provisions become directly relevant, and commercially significant. Short for “ In ternational Co mmercial Terms,” the Incoterms are a set of globally recognized trade rules organized into 11 abbreviated terms. First published in Paris in 1936, by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Incoterms rules provide: Incoterms 2020 also makes a couple other changes.
